清华大学数学科学系介绍

清华大学数学科学系有着辉煌而悠久的历史。其前身，是创建于1927年的清华大学数学系和前工程力学数学系计算数学专业以及 1979年恢复建立的应用数学系。
从1927年创建至今，清华数学共经历了三个不同的发展阶段：1927年至1952年从创建到辉煌发展的阶段、1952年至1979年从院系调整到复建的特殊发展阶段、1979年至今蓬勃发展的新阶段。可以说，在每个发展阶段清华数学系都为中国数学科学之发展和中国杰出科技人才之培养做出了很大的贡献。
从1927年创立到1952年院系调整前的25年间，先后担任过清华数学系主任的著名数学家有郑之番、熊庆来、杨武之、江泽涵、赵访熊、段学复等。他们不仅积极引进和采用当时世界上最先进的数学教学体系，而且力倡学术研究、广泛罗致人才，在短短二十五年里就使清华数学从创建走向辉煌。在这期间有许多国内知名数学家先后来清华数学系任教，其中包括孙光远、曾远荣、胡坤升、许宝禄、陈省身、华罗庚、庄圻泰、闵嗣鹤、徐利治、程民德、吴新谋、万哲先、冯康、周毓麟等。1935年还聘请了法国数学家、当时的世界算学会副会长J.Hadamard和美国数学家、现代控制论创始人N.Wiener担任客座教授。这期间也涌现出了不少的数学人才，如陈省身、华罗庚、吴大任、庄圻泰、许宝禄、柯召等。可以说国际著名数学家陈省身、华罗庚等就是从清华数学系走向世界的，他们的辉煌成就对当代数学的发展产生了深远的影响。由于提倡教学与研究兼重，当时取得了一批颇有影响的研究成果。如熊庆来在亚纯函数方面所建立的无穷亚纯函数论；杨武之在我国现代数论研究方面的开创性工作“棱锥数的华林问题”；华罗庚在解析数论方面关于素数变换的Waring问题的研究以及变数之素数的方程组的研究；陈省身对微分几何中高斯—波内公式的研究以及拓扑学、Finsler几何的研究等。1941年华罗庚的“堆垒素数论”获得教育部颁发的首届学术研究及著作发明国家一等奖，许宝禄的“数理统计”论文获二等奖。
从1952年到1979年清华数学经历了一个特殊的发展时期。1952年全国高校进行了院系调整，清华大学数学系并入了北京大学数学系及其它院校。由于工程教育的需要，清华大学设立了高等数学教研室，主要担负全校数学基础课的教学任务，当时教授只留下赵访熊一人。1958年创建了国内第一个工科大学的计算数学专业，至1966年高等数学与计算数学两个教研组教职工总人数达到了117人，教授有赵访熊、娈汝书、周华章。六十年代，赵访熊在计算数学方面的研究工作以及其他同志的研究工作在国内也有一定影响。这期间良好的数学基础教学工作也为清华大学培养优秀科技人才发挥了很大的作用。
1979年清华大学数学系重建并更名为应用数学系，赵访熊出任系主任。从此清华数学又迎来了一个新的发展时期。当时的应用数学系下设五个教研室：计算数学教研室、离散数学教研室、微分方程教研室、概率统计教研室和数学分析教研室。1986年又增设运筹学教研室。1981年，在刚刚复建两年之后，清华大学应用数学系就凭着她的特色和实力获得了计算数学学科的博士点。 1984又获得了应用数学博士点。进入八十年代之后，清华大学应用数学系的数学研究工作全面展开。每年的科研项目都保持在三十项左右。10年间在国内外学术刊物上发表论文400余篇，并有不少研究成果获奖。教师中有10余人先后担任国内一级学会理事长、副理事长、理事等职务，其中萧树铁曾担任中国工业与应用数学学会第一届理事长。在应用微分方程的研究方面，以萧树铁为首的课题组关于水渗流问题的研究在国内外处于领先地位，并有多项研究成果获国家和省部级奖。在计算数学研究方面，有限元方法、数值代数、非线性方程组数值解法及科学计算软件、并行算法等均有重要成果，并有多项研究成果获国家和部委科技进步奖，在国内处于领先水平。运筹学研究方面关于城市交通综合体系规划研究取得了多项突出成果，并获得国家和北京市科技进步奖。
二十世纪90年代末，数学系又迎来了一个新的发展机遇。1999年系名更改为数学科学系，以更好的反映本系教学和研究对数学科学的涵盖。近年来，学校加大了对数学学科发展的投入，大大改善了办公、教学、科研等硬件环境，良好的激励机制创造了浓厚的学术氛围，而从海内外引进的各学科领域的优秀人才也为清华数学的发展注入了新的活力。目前，数学系已形成一支实力雄厚、结构合理的教师队伍。全系教师共计81人，其中正教授37人（含博士生导师18人），副教授35人，讲师7人，助教2人。教师中45岁以下者达46人（其中正教授13人，副教授24人，讲师、助教共9人），具有博士学位者达43人。13名年轻教授全都有在国外著名大学和研究所从事研究工作之经历。他们当中有4人获国家杰出青年基金，2人获香港求是基金杰出青年学者奖，4人获清华大学百人计划基金，1人获教育部跨世纪人才基金。全系有国家“973”重大基础研究项目正式成员14人（含子课题负责人2人）。此外，清华数学系还是全国工科基础课数学教学基地。近年来，我系先后聘请了国际著名数学家、美国麻省理工学院林家翘教授，哈佛大学丘成桐教授，加州大学伯克利分校陈省身教授为名誉教授。聘请了美国密执安州立大学李天岩教授和香港城市大学王世全教授为客座教授。聘请了北京大学张恭庆院士，中国科学院研究生院陈希孺院士，中国科学院数学与系统科学研究院万哲先院士、马志明院士和袁亚湘、韩继业研究员为兼职教授。
经过几代人的不断努力，清华数学系已成为国内几个最具实力的数学系之一。继1981年获得计算数学专业博士点，1984年获得应用数学专业博士点，1998年获得基础数学专业博士点之后，2000年获得了数学一级学科博士学位授予权。在科学研究方面，近五年全系已获得国家及省部级奖10余项，其中国家教育部科技进步一等奖1项，二等奖3项。另外在工科数学教材编写、教学方法研究和教学手段现代化方面成果显著，获国家级优秀教学成果奖3项。近年来出版教材21部。2000年承担科研项目95项，其中国家及国务院各部门项目62项。1999年清华大学数学系发表SCI收录论文48篇，总数在全国高等学校数学系中名列前茅。在人才培养方面也取得长足进步，近五年已授予博士学位20人，授予硕士学位72人。2000年本科生也大幅度扩招，从原来每年只招30名扩大到每年招收90名，这无疑是清华数学进一步发展的基础。
